The direct mail campaign design brief
UK for UNHCR required direct mail communications that could engage supporters, explain urgent humanitarian needs and encourage donations through clear and compelling storytelling.
Designing a connected supporter journey
We developed structured direct mail packs that balanced emotional storytelling with practical information and clear donation journeys. Letters, envelopes, newsletters, response forms and supporting inserts were designed as a connected experience, with strong hierarchy and careful image use guiding supporters through each appeal.
Direct mail campaign design needs to work at several levels: the envelope introduces the communication, the letter explains the appeal, and supporting pieces give readers detail and a way to respond. Consistent typography and layout help these separate pieces feel part of one conversation.
Our approach connected the campaign message across the pack while giving each format a clear purpose. Donation forms and response information were treated as part of the design, alongside the storytelling and imagery.
A flexible direct mail campaign design system
A cohesive family of fundraising communications that presented complex humanitarian stories with clarity and sensitivity. The flexible approach allowed different campaigns and appeals to retain their own focus while remaining recognisably part of UK for UNHCR’s wider communications.

What is campaign design?
Campaign design creates a clear visual idea and flexible set of assets that communicate a message consistently across different channels. It can support awareness, fundraising, recruitment, behaviour change, public information or product and service promotion.
What does a campaign design project include?
A campaign can include the creative concept, visual identity, key messaging, advertising, social media assets, digital graphics, printed materials, outdoor advertising, presentations, motion graphics and campaign guidelines.
Can you develop the campaign concept as well as the design?
Yes. We can develop the central creative idea, visual direction and messaging approach, then translate the concept into a practical campaign system that works across all required formats.
Can you work within our existing brand?
Yes. We can create a distinctive campaign that remains clearly connected to your organisation’s brand, using established colours, typography, imagery and tone of voice where appropriate.
Do you design campaign assets for print and digital channels?
Yes. We design coordinated assets for social media, websites, email, digital advertising, posters, press advertising, outdoor media, publications, presentations and other campaign touchpoints.
Can you create campaign templates for our team to use?
Yes. We can provide editable templates and practical campaign guidelines so your internal team can create additional materials while maintaining a consistent look and message.
How long does a campaign design project take?
Timescales depend on the number of assets, approval stages and launch date. We create a clear production schedule and can support both planned campaigns and urgent, fast-moving communications.
